The Challenge

Design an immersive foreign language translator that informs and adapts games, quizzes and instruction to the user’s context and situations. Dialects are not the same across different regions of the world and people learn languages for their own uses and wants. Hopskip™ looks to solve this demand for personalized language learning.

Ethnographic Research

A variety of research methods including surveys, interviews, card sorts, mind-mapping were employed to understand user needs.

Pain Point Discovery

Understanding where roadblocks occur in traditional language learning methods was essential to development. Likewise, incorporating feedback from people who have tried to use a foreign language abroad was helpful in determining the most commonly used translation situations.

UX Design

The greatest challenge came with integrating technology with the natural, speedy flow of human conversation. Wearable technology and microphone enabled headphone helped enhance this experience.

Wearable + Mobile App

Translated conversations are saved as Memories. The AI draws from the words and context of Memories to create personalized lessons, games and vocabulary. Additionally, local expressions and slang are infused into teaching depending upon the user’s geolocation.
